April 2016

Here in the subtropics we don't see much of autumn, but there are some subtle signs that summer is finally over. The frangipani sheds its leaves (one of the few trees in Brisbane that does), and the fruit of the Taiwanese Rain Tree appears: papery, rose-coloured capsules. Very pretty, but this tree is considered a pest here.

In the street next to ours a Queenslander house is being raised to build living space underneath. Always fascinating to watch:

And I just had to take a photo of this pretty low-set Queenslander cottage with its pink door!

And finally, some birds on a wire. I love the pattern of the crossing lines:

Gymnastics Championships

My eldest son competed at the Senior State Championships in Queensland over the weekend. Here are a few of the photos I made - large lenses and tripods are not allowed, the hall is big and the light is bad, so they aren't very good but they do convey the atmosphere. My son won gold on Pommel Horse, his best apparatus; bronze on floor, rings, parallel bars and high bar; and came third overall. Very proud mum here!

March 2016

A few days late, but here are the photos for March. Colorful beach balls and daring youngsters in Redcliffe:

Easter eggs:

Nudgee Beach:

And some lovely public art that I almost didn't notice:
